Abstract
754,506. Endless tracks for vehicles. MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE FOR CANADA. Aug. 23, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953], No. 24512/54. Class 79 (1). In a vehicle endless track having alternate hingedly-connected link members A, B, the members A are each formed with a pair of channels forming part of a wheel track and interconnected by a backbone member 8 and with outwardly projecting cleats, and the members B are each formed with a cleat coextensive with the backbone member 8 and with flanges 26 forming additional parts of the wheel track. Each channel has, as shown, a bottom web 2 and flanges 4, 6, the flanges 6 of each link being interconnected by the member 8. Secured to the flanges 4 are the cleats each having a horizontal flange 14 and a vertical flange 12. Secured by bolts 18 to the webs 2 are cushion feet for operating on hard ground, the feet extending below the level of the flanges 12. The cleat of each link B is formed by a horizontal flange 20 and a vertical flange 22. The ends of the cleat are closed by flanges 24 having at their lower edges the flanges 26. The flanges 26 carry feet similar to those provided on the webs 2, and the webs and flanges carry projections 10, 30 whereby the links are hingedly connected by pins (not shown). The webs 2 and flanges 26 are provided with holes 28 for sprocket engagement and are also adapted to receive track rollers. The projections 10, 30 may be replaced by a flexible cable, chain or a strip of reinforced rubber, Fig. 7 (not shown).
