Abstract

845,515. Endless tracks for vehicles. ATKINSONS AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES Ltd. June 6, 1957 [June 8, 1956; Jan. 23, 19 57], Nos. 17719/56 and 2362/57. Class 79(1). An endless flexible track comprises a number of sections each having a longitudinal series of transverse driving bars 16 interengaging with or forming part of linking means 10 and one or more lengths of elastomeric material 17 providing on its inner face a smooth running lane for series of bogie wheels and embedding the whole of the track save for driving bar portions 19 to engage the vehicle sprockets and the face portions of interfitting ends 29, of the track sections. Driving lugs 23 are connected by bolts 12 and nuts 13 to the bars 16 which engage slots in the linking means. In Figs. 3 and 4 the driving bars have interfitting parts 43, 44 bolted together and to two spaced pairs of links 40 at 45, the links being recessed in their upper and lower surfaces 41, 42 to receive the parts. The joints between track sections are formed by an upper half link 46 with a boss 48 to fit an aperture 49 in a lower half link 47. Belts 50 of natural rubber or other elastomeric material are moulded around the pairs of links and have obliquely disposed grooves 55 in their ground-engaging surfaces. Blocks or lugs, which may be fitted with guide plates, are bolted to the driving bars at 58 to cooperate with sprocket teeth. The driving bars may be integral with the links and the half links at the ends of the sections may be bolted together. Fig. 10 shows a track for use with twin, laterally-spaced sprockets which engage driving lugs 97, 98 having fore and aft flanges to secure together the two halves 90, 91 of a driving bar by which the track sections are joined. Track guides 99 also serve to hold the halves 90, 91 together. In a modified construction, the halves 90, 91 are hollowed at their mating faces, bolted at their ends and connected centrally by a single driving lug provided with track guides. In Fig. 11 the track section has three driving bars 101 riveted to blocks 102 pivotally interconnected by plates 103, 104. The bars 101 are recessed to receive the blocks 102 and have holes 110 for driving lugs and guide plates. Belts 108 of elastomeric material are grooved at 111. Tongues 118 fit within recesses 114 when the track sections are connected by long transverse bolts passed through bores 116. The sections may, alternatively, be connected by making each of the plates 103, 104 in two overlapped parts and connecting all of the parts by a single transverse bolt.
