Abstract

389,304. Endless tracks for vehicles. ANSALDO SOC. ANON., Cornigliano, Genoa, Italy. May 10, 1932, No. 13420. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1931. [Class 79 (i).] In an endless track having main and auxiliary links, each main link is provided with two openings, as shown, or two projections, for a hinge joint, two guiding fins 3, 4 for load-carrying rollers, and metal or metal and rubber tread members 7, and each auxiliary link is provided with two projections (or two openings) for the hinge joint and with guiding fins 11 for the rollers. In the construction shown the main link has hinge lugs 1, 2 and is formed with a rectangular frame 5 in which a metal plate 6 bonded at 9 to a rubber tread member 7 is secured by two bolts 8. The edge of the frame 5 protects the joint between the metal and the rubber. The auxiliary link comprises a pair of members each having a pair of hinge lugs projecting into the adjoining main links, a pyramidal guiding projection 11 and a side lug 12 which bridges the gap between the main lugs and forms part of the roller path. Three spaces 13, 14, 15 are formed between each pair of main links and are adapted to be engaged by sprocket teeth, so that a driving sprocket with central teeth or with side teeth may be used. In a modification, instead of the frame 5, plate 6 and rubber tread 7, each main link is formed with a single metal rib for engaging the ground.
