Abstract
754,493. Wire terminals. AIRCRAFTMARINE PRODUCTS, Inc. June 11, 1954 [June 12, 1953], No. 17232/54. Class 38 (1). The ferrule portion 4 of a wire terminal is formed with transverse, flat-bottomed grooves 12 having sloping sides and so dimensioned that when the ferrule is crimped on to a wire 6, the edges of the grooves cut through any layer of insulating material or oxide on the wire and the metal of the latter is compressed into and wedges in the grooves. The edges 26, Fig. 4, of the grooves may be raised by means of a die 20 to form better cutting edges. To avoid the danger of weakening the wire at the mouth of the ferrule, the grooves may be shallower at this point. Frusto-conical recesses or indentations may be used instead of grooves and the grooves when used may be parallel with the axis of the ferrule and tapered in both width and depth towards the mouth of the ferrule.
