Abstract

1313993 Terminals RELIABLE ELECTRIC CO 12 Jan 1971 1370/71 Heading H2E A terminal comprises a flat body 10 of resilient metal, notch 11 and narrow slot 13, the intersection of the slot and notch providing sharp corners that penetrate and slice insulation from a wire as it is forced into slot 13. An aperture 12 may be provided. The slot is formed by a shearing or slitting operation, after which portions are prestressed at 15 forcing arms 14 apart. The notch may have edges that are downwardly converging, as shown, or parallel and preferably has a shaped entry portion to facilitate wire insertion. A tool 30 can be provided which is placed over the upper parallel portions of arms 14, the end surfaces 33 of the tool applying pressure to the wire. The tool also limits the deflection of the arms to within their elastic limits. A blade 34 can be provided for cutting the free end of the wire. A further embodiment (Fig. 9, not shown) of the terminal, has arms of reduced width and greater flexibility for more fragile wires. A tab 23 for searing the terminal to a holder, as by wedging, and a portion 22 to permit soldered or wire-wrapped connections can be provided.
