Abstract

1295059 Electric couplings WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 16 Dec 1969 [27 Dec 1968] 61109/69 Heading H2E A wire interconnection apparatus comprises an insulating index strip 100 and an insulating connector block 201 which has contacts 212 mounted in it. The index strip has two rows of teeth 104, the teeth of the two rows being connected by separators 106, and wires are placed between adjacent teeth in slots 105. The strip has legs 110, 111 for mounting the strip in an inverted V-shaped groove in a mounting base (Fig. 6, not shown). Projections 109 formed on teeth 104 interlock with holes 211 formed in the legs 209 of block 201 when these are mated. The contacts 212 are held in the connector block 201 by projections engaging in holes 213 in the block, each contact being in a well formed between adjacent separators 217 between teeth 205. Wires are placed in slots 206 in block 201, their insulation being pierced by the ends of contacts 212 and the block is then mated with the index strip 101, the other ends of the contacts 212 piercing the insulation of the wires in slots 105 of strip 101. A tool (Fig. 8, not shown) may be used to seat the wires in slots 105, 206. A large number of indexing strips may be mounted on a base for use with, for example, telephone lines (Fig. 4, not shown).
