Abstract

1419129 Electric couplings WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 21 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 59017/72 Heading H2E Double-ended insulation-piercing contacts 219, Fig. 6A, are trapped between mouldings (200A) Fig. 4A (not shown) and (200B) Fig. 4B (not shown), forming a connector block 200 of complex section, Fig. 7, having integral snap latches for engaging base 100 and cap 300, and at one side may accept an additional tap-off connector block 500, Fig. 11, which presents contacts 504A, of like form, through slots 234, to engage the waists 220 of contacts 219. Resilient slot walls 111 grip wire insulation, and supports 116 deflect for differing diameters. Polycarbonate, polyamide, polystyrene and. ABS resin are suitable moulding materials. A polyethylene-polybutylene compound may be placed to encapsulate the wire ends. A tool (not shown) presses wires into slots, cuts wire ends, and forces latching parts together, bring- ing the bifurcated contact edges on to the conductor wires in the course of this assembly process.
