754,186. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 6, 1954 [Oct. 9, 1953], No. 28772/54. Class 112. The presser foot of a sewing-machine is lifted to an intermediate position, suitable for embroidering or darning, by means of a cam 34 pivoted at 33 to the faceplate closing the hollow head of the sewing- machine, a surface 35 on the cam co-operating with the head of a stud 38, securing a collar 39 to the presser bar 18, so as to lift the presser bar against a spring 19 when the cam is turned to its operative position by means of a fingergrip 37 carried at the end of an arm 36 extending from the cam; and the head and face-plate are formed with an indendation 41 which accommodates the finger grip when the cam is in the inoperative position. A leaf spring 42, carried by the cam, has a free end which projects through the latter and which enters a notch in the face-plate when the cam is in its inoperative position.
