Abstract

768,421. Sewing machine loop-takers. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 18, 1955 [April 29, 1954], No. 11036/55. Class 112. A thread-case for a sewing machine looptaker comprises a cup-shaped body 18 for receiving a cop C, and a cover 19 which closes the body and which has a projection 24 connected to the body by a hinge pin 20 ; the cover being provided with a thread delivery eye 29, with a slot 34 extending from said eye to the periphery of the cover adjacent to and above said projection, with thread - tensioning means 30 adapted to contact the thread as it emerges from the eye, and with latch means 26 adapted to co-operate with latch means 27 on the body for holding the cover in the closed position. As shown, the thread-case has a peripheral rib 17 disposed in a raceway 13 provided in rotary hook 12, the raceway being closed by a jib 15. The thread-tensioning means is in the form of a leaf spring secured to the cover by a screw 32, and the arrangement is such that the bottom edge of the leaf spring crosses the slot 34. The body 18 by a thickened and rounded rim 21 provided with a slot 22 for receiving a rotation-restraining bar. The face of the cover 19 is recessed to provide a raised peripheral rib 35 which serves to protect the leaf spring and which is provided with a slot 31. After a cop is inserted in the body, thread B is taken from the centre of the cop and is pulled through slot 34 into eye 29, when the thread is turned upwardly and the cover is closed, the thread then being passed through the slots 31 and 22, and finally through the needle hole 11 in the throat plate 10.
