29,167. Singer Manufacturing Co., Colborne, T., and Smith, L. H. Dec. 28. Sewing - machines; presser - bars, lifting; presser-bar springs; presser-feet. - A buffer spring D is provided on the lower part of the presser-bar in opposition to the usual spring I and serves normally to hold the presser-foot slightly above the work-support. In one construction, the presser is periodically pressed on to the work by means of a bracket J, Fig. 1, on the needle-bar which engages the upper end of the spring I. In a second construction, an arm N, Fig. 2, secured to the top of the presserbar, carries a plunger Q which is pressed downwards into contact with a presser-lifting cam M by means of a spring, the upper abutment of which is formed by a tongue O secured to the arm N and passing through a slot in the plunger. The cam-piece M is secured by screws M<2> and a tongue-and-groove connexion M<3> to the needle-driving crank-disk M<1>. The presserfoot B, Fig. 1, is concave towards the worksupport.
