Abstract

753,990. Rolling. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA METALLVERKEN. Feb. 8, 1954 [Feb. 10, 1953], No. 3624/54. Class 83 (4). In a pilger rolling mill of the type having a pair of complementary taper grooved rolls 9, 10, which are reciprocated and simultaneously rocked, the rolls are journalled one above the other in bearing blocks 1, 3 and supported by wheels 21 freely or fixedly mounted on the upper roll shafts 7 and running on horizontal rails 23. The assembly is reciprocated, by pairs of connecting rods 34, 38 on each side pivoted on the shafts 7, 8 of the upper and lower rolls and driven from intergeared crank discs 43, 45. Oscillation of the rolls is obtained through gears 26, 30 on the ends of the roll shafts and engaging racks 28, 32 which are adjustable in position to suit the roll pass and provide correct tooth engagement. The upwardly facing racks 28 may be integral with the rails 23 and the diameter of the wheels 21 is made equal to the pitch diameter of the teeth which is preferably of a value between the maximum and minimum pitch diameter of the roll grooves.
