753,679. Gearing for conveying oscillating motion. PRODUCTIVE INVENTIONS, Inc. Feb. 26, 1954 [June 26, 1953], No. 5706/54. Class 80(1) [Also in Group XXIII] Oscillati n g movement is imparted to a shaft 1 from a crank arm 26 for actuating, for example, the wiper arm 23 of a vehicle windshield. In addition, particularly tor curved windshields, the shaft 1 is given a rocking movement about an axis transverse to the shaft, the shaft being provided with a spherical bearing 20 at one end and at the other end with a toothed sector 11 which engages with a rack portion 9 on the housing 6. Thus, as the shaft is rotated one way and then the other the sector 11 rolls over the rack 9 to give the shaft the desired rocking movement about the bearing 20 in addition to its rotation to maintain the wiper arm substantially erect over all portions of the shield.
