Class 80(3) In an adjustable-throw crank mechanism for windscreen wipers, a spur wheel 4 on the wiper arm spindle is oscillated by a toothed sector 3 linked to a cylindrical slide block 6 which is reciprocated at constant amplitude by a crank pin 1 on a wheel geared to an electric motor. the pin 1 engaging a diametrical groove in one end face of the slide block while its other end face has a diametrical groove engaged by a stationary guide bar 8, Fig. 2, whose inclination is varied to vary the line of reciprocation of the slide block and consequently vary the throw of the sector 3. The block 6 is carried in a ring on the inner end of the link 12, and the two diametrical grooves are at right angles. The bar 8 is mounted on a casing cover 9a by a pin 8a and is held in adjusted position by a lock nut. An adjusting arm 14 may be limited by stops to a 90 degree movement.
