753,417. Reciprocating pumps. BERGER & SONS, Ltd., L. Aug. 13, 1954 [Aug. 14, 1953], No. 23666/54. Class 102(1). In a reciprocating pump for delivering a variably controlled measured quantity, a piston is actuated by a connecting rod 5 loaded by a tension spring 36 and pivoted on a rocking beam 24 freely mounted on the shaft 10 which has an oscillating movement and carries a crank arm 16. A disc 18 is freely mounted on the shaft 10 and can be moved by an arm 23 to bring an appropriate calibration on its edge opposite a pointer 20 carried by the crank arm 16 which can be clamped to the disc by a handle 17. When the shaft 10 moves, a stop. 22 engages a projection 26 on the rocking beam and actuates the pump on the suction stroke. upon reverse rotation of the shaft 10, the spring 36 assists the delivery stroke until the stop 22 and adjustable bolt 28 on the crank arm 16 engage a leaf spring 27 carried by the rocking beam 24 ; a blade 40 carried by the beam 24 frictionally engages a spring-loaded ball in a slot in the block 41 to absorb energy at the end of the delivery stroke. The inlet from tank 32 and delivery to pipe 33 are controlled by a slide valve 29 actuated by lever 31. Several pumps may be mounted in line and actuated from a common shaft 10.
