Abstract

759,345. Raising liquids. EMDOW UTILI. TIES, Ltd. Oct. 27, 1954, No. 31073/54. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A pump comprises a cylinder 1 that is reciprocated axially and has an inlet opening 3 that is closed by a ball 6 that projects below the end of the cylinder ; an outlet 5 is provided at the top of the cylinder. A spring 12 may be provided to form a resilient stop for the ball 6 and assist to push it onto its seat. Fig. 4 illustrates one way of reciprocating the cylinder in which the pipe 5 is attached to a blade spring 14 oscillated by a cam or eccentric 16. The pump may be embodied in a siphon for priming purposes and once the action is started, the pump may be rested on the base of the liquid container whereby the valve 6 is maintained open.
