In a hook-fastening for garments such as the waistband of trousers, of the kind comprising a front plate 1 formed with a hook 2 and prongs 3 which are pushed through the material of the waistband and through slots 6 provided in a back-plate or clamping-plate 5, and are then bent upon the back-plate to hold the hookplate in position, the back-plate is provided with additional apertures arranged to receive the pointed ends of the prongs when the latter are bent over or clenched against it. In the example the prong-receiving slots 6 are provided towards the corners of a substantially square back-plate 5, and the additional apertures are provided by the radial portions of a large central aperture 7 of cruciform shape, the triangular portions 9 thus defined by the radial apertures being bent inwards at an angle of about 45 degrees to form integral teeth which are embedded in the waistband when the back-plate is secured. The metal 8 which separates each slot 6 from a radial limb of the cruciform aperture is depressed inwards in the same direction as the central triangular teeth 9, so that when the prongs 3 are bent downwardly they lie substantially flush with the outer face of the plate 5.
