Abstract

752,198. Vehicle windows. AUSTER, Ltd., and SMALL, W. W. Feb. 4, 1955 [March 31, 1954], No. 9369/54. Class 20(3). An inwardly-opening, angularly-adjustable, ventilation and signalling double panel assembly for the drivers' cabs of motor omnibuses comprises two side-byside glass panels 1, 2 mounted in frames 3, 4 hinged together at adjacent vertical edges 7, the frame 4 being hinged at its outer vertical edge 15 to a fixed frame 5 and the panel 1 being slidably and pivotally guided upon horizontal fixed frame members 5<SP>1</SP>. For the latter purpose, the frame 3 has upper and lower inwardly offset brackets 8 each carrying a vertical guide pin 9 for slidably engaging a slot 10 in a plate 11 fixed to the inside face of the respective frame member 5<SP>1</SP>. The pins 9 may be fitted above and below the respective guide plates 11 with spring-pressed cups, or washers 12, and recesses not shown, may be formed at the ends of the slots 10 to receive the cups 12. A handle 14 is fixed to the panel 2 so that the hinge 7 can be moved over a dead centre position to maintain the panels in their closed position until they are forcibly moved by an inward pulling of the handle 14, whereupon the panels can be opened by applying pressure to the handle in a direction substantially parallel to the window opening.
