A motor vehicle, for example a taxi-cab has a fore-and-aft partition of full height across the driver's compartment, Figs. 1, 2, the upper portion of the partition being transparent and having at its rear end a pane 16 hinged on a vertical axis at or adjacent to its forward or its rear edge so as to be movable from a closed position to an outwardly opened position. The lower metal part 12 of the partition extends from a transverse partition 14 between the driver and passengers to the forward surface of the driver's compartment. The upper portion of the partition 12 may comprise two panes 15, 16, each pane having its upper and lower edges enclosed in a channel sectioned frame 17a, 17b, respectively. At their adjacent ends the sides of the channels are removed and their bottom portions overlapped, Fig. 3, (not shown), to accommodate hinge pins 18, 19. A frame 20, 21 of L-shaped section serves to locate the two panes when in closed position, and the vertical edges between the panes may be sealed by a rubber &c strip 26, Fig. 5, (not shown). By opening pane 16 the driver may reach the taximeter 27 or the luggage, and he may ventilate the driving compartment by moving the levers 24, 23, to open the pane 15. In a modification the two panes may have independent parallel axes and be separated by a fixed pane. Where the forward edge of the pane 15 abuts the wind screen 30 the edge may be provided with a narrow frame to support a draught excluding strip. Specification 625,356 is referred to.
