Abstract

752,078. Firebacks; dampers. UWINS, C. C. G. June 17,. 1954 [June 17, 1953], No. 16680/53. Class 126. The underside of the forwardly projecting part of a fireback for an open fireplace has at least one projection which is of smooth rounded vertical cross-section, and the imderside of which inclines slightly upwards towards the sides of the fireplace, part of the fireback at each side of the projection being smooth and uncorrugated. The inclined part 10 of a fireback is formed with three projections 16, 17, 18, and smooth side portions 21, the height of each projection above the line through the bottoms of the grooves between them decreasing trom top to bottom. The vertical part of the fireback is provided with corrugations 22, inclining slightly outwardly from the vertical centre line. These corrugations are all of the same depth and extend to the sides of the fireback. A single depression 23 is formed above them. In a modification, Fig. 4, the inclined corrugated part of the fireback forms the front face of a boiler 24, a back boiler flue having a damper 30 operated by a pawl and ratchet device 31, 32 being provided. The fireback may be used with a convection heater according to Specification 749,073, [Group XIII]. The fireback may be combined with adjustable side cheeks to fit fireplaces of differing widths.
