Abstract

751,897. Joint-making packing. DOWTY SEALS, Ltd., and BASTOW, F. Sept. 9, 1954 [May 24, 1954], No. 15232/54. Classes 122(3) and 122(5) [Also in Groups XXII and XXVIII] In a composite gasket comprising a metal plate 13 having one or more apertures 12 containing resiliently deformable sealing rings 11, each aperture is formed first by stamping to provide a cylindrical wall and then by pressing to render the wall generally convex or concave in section, the sealing ring being either moulded in the aperture or formed separately with an outer surface complemental to the aperture in which it is subsequently fitted. A cylindrical bore 15 is stamped in the plate 13 and then deformed to either, a convex section by a pair of frusto-conical dies pressed oppositely into the bore or, a concave section by a pair of annular dies 17, Fig. 6, pressed oppositely against the plate and forming V-shaped annular depressions 18 in the plate around the aperture 12. The sealing rings 11 are made of synthetic rubber and project axially beyond the plate 13 to which they may be bonded.
