Abstract
751,632. Shredding machines. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Feb. 23, 1955 [Feb. 24, 1954], No. 5393/54. Class 59. In a shredder for alkali cellulose comprising a drum 1 having fixed pyramidal teeth 10 on its inner surface which co-operate with teeth provided on bars 9 mounted on a screw 8 which moves the material from an inlet 2 to an outlet 3, the teeth on each bar 9, which is parallel to the axis of the screw 8, are saw-toothed ridges towards the inlet and pyramidal towards the outlet. The saw-toothed ridges 17 occupy one quarter of the length of each bar 9 and are inclined to the bar so that they tend to move the alkali cellulose in a direction opposite to that imparted to it by the screw 8. The pyramidal teeth occupying the remainder of each bar are divided into two or more groups, the teeth 22 in the group nearest the outlet being smaller than the teeth 19 in the other group or groups. The respective teeth 19, 22 are staggered to eliminate gaps transversely across the bar. A baffle 11 rotated by the screw 8 extends diametrically across the drum between two of the bars 9 to ensure that the alkali cellulose passes between the teeth 10 and the ridges 17 and teeth 19, 22. The sheets of alkali cellulose may be fed to a pre-breaker 25. Specifications 712,004 and 713,503 are referred to.
