Abstract
751,371. Wringer mops. SPONGE PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 26, 1954. No. 2425/54, Class 19 In a self - wringing sponge mop the sponge is attached to a pair of supporting plates 13 each of which is pivoted at its inner end to one of a pair of curved links 4. The., links 4 are pivoted to one end of the handle 1, as are also toggle levers 21 which are connected to the outer ends of the plates 13 by pivoted links 17. Levers 12 are pivoted at one end to the links 17 and carry at the other end rollers 31, their fulcrums being in a member 7 which is free to slide on the handle 1. Wringing is performed by means of a sliding sleeve 22 to which is fixed a V-shaped cam 26, the faces of which engage the rollers 31. The mechanism provides a toggle action whereby the sponge is held extended in the, mopping position. In wringing, sliding the sleeve 22 at first causes sliding motion of the lever 12 and member 7, until the levers 21 pass beyond a critical poition, Fig. 5 (not shown). Beyond this point the cam 26 forces the levers 12 apart, so folding and saueezing. the sponge. Fig. 2 (not shown). The cam 26 is provided with out-turned extensions 29 which, in returning the mop to mopping position, engage in-turned lugs 30 formed on the levers 12.
