[Class 44] A clothes peg comprises two intercontacting prongs A, B, one of which rests and rocks upon the other about a pivot C intermediate of their ends together with a spring F adapted to squeeze together the two prongs at the points of pressure G, H, the spring being disposed externally of the prongs and capable of sliding, so that the points of pressure pass from one side of the pivot C to the other to positively open or close the prongs as required. The two prongs A, B, are identical in shape and the spring is provided with a loop at its centre forming a convenient handle for the peg. In the external edges of the prongs, grooves J are provided in which the pressure points G, H, may slide, the latter being formed by upturning the ends of the spring. The sliding motion of the spring is limited in one direction by the shoulders L, M of the spring abutting the upper edges of the prongs and in the other direction by the pressure points G, H, contacting the ends of a link E. This link comprises a short piece of wire working loosely in opposed holes in each of the prongs, a central pinch being formed at R to prevent accidental dislodgment. When the peg is not in use the upper ends of the prongs engage each other, but on placing the flared end D over the clothes upon a line, the spring is pushed down to its position as in Fig. 1, the prongs rotate about the pivot C and a tight grip is made upon the clothes.
