Description
9 *l* G. c. MOLDENHAUER FOLDING DIP OR MINNOW NET BOW Filed Aug.' 19, 1953 mmf/mf Patented Feb. 4, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the setting up and folding of the bows with the net easily and in a short time. The simplicity of the hinged construction makes it durable and eicient in use, easy to manufacture and can be placed on the market at a reasonable cost.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 illustrates a plan View of the bow head with four arms.
Fig. 2 gives a perspective view of the bow head with the bows, set in a working position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View of the bow head indicated by line A-A in Fig. 1 with a loop and hook type bow set in a working position.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of two of the bow head arms, with a loop and a hook type bow set in a folded position; also a Sectional end View of an arm, illustrating the position of the bow between the channel walls and cross member in an arm, when set in a working position. This also gives a full view of the rope eye I0 in the lug I on the upper side of the bow head.
The bow head on its under side has a series of channels 6 which extend from the partition 4 outwardly between the channel walls 2 through the center of each arm 9 illustrated in Fig. l. In each channel 6 a bow 1 or 8 is mounted on a cross member 5; this cross member 5 is fastened to the channel walls 2 close to the outer end of each arm 9 and serves as a fulcrum for the bow 1 or 8 when in a working position as illustrated in Fig. 3 and as a pivot when folded as illustrated in Fig. 4.
The loop or hook type bow with the inward U curve shape at the end can be used with the bow head.
The bow 1 is of the loop type which has an elongated loop formed on one end and is mounted in the channel l with the cross member 5 passing through the loop as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4.
The bow 8 is of the hook type which has a hook formed on one end and is fastened in the channel 6 with the hook passing over the cross member 5 as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4.
The position of the bows 'l or 8 in the channels 6 is between the top channel wall 3 and the cross member 5 as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4. When the bows 'l or 8 are placed in a working position, the bow head is held against an 5 object and the bows are moved so that they can be slid on the cross member 5 in the channel 6 up against the partition 4 as illustrated in Fig.
3. Each bow is set in place as described and held in that position by the tension on the bows when 10 the net is attached to them as illustrated in Fig. 2.
When the net is to be folded, the bow head is held against an object and the bows are moved to release the tension and pulled outwardly so 15 that the curve of the bow l or 8 engages the cross member 5 and turns on it as a pivot and is folded as illustrated in Fig. 4.
Having thus described my invention, I am aware that prior to my invention folding dip or 20 minnow net bows have been made. I, therefore, do not claim such a combination broadly, but what is new, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bow head consisting of a center member 25 and arms positioned in planes at right angles to each other and extending from said center member, a partition extending downwardly from the center member, the center member and the` extensions having coextensive channels, a cross 30 member traversing each channel adjacent the outer end thereof, said cross members being adapted to receive bows thereon and bows slidably and pivotally mounted on said cross mem bers.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein said parftition is diagonally disposed with respect to the center member and has recesses communicating with the channels.
3. The structure of claim 1 wherein one or more 40 of said bows have a substantially closed loop to maintain said bows in substantially permanent association with said cross members.
