Abstract

748,865. Dartboards &c. HASTINGS, P. H. Sept. 8, 1953 [June 8, 1952], No. 11646/52. Class 132(3) [Also in Group V]. A dartboard or the like is formed of segments cut from compressed fibrous material mixed with a binding agent, the segments then being united to form a planar whole. Fig. 4 shows a mould 11 in which sisal or other vegetable fibres mixed with binding such as rubber latex or casein adhesive are compressed. If latex is used, the compressed mass may be vulcanized in the mould. Segments 10a, 10b of a thickness equal to that of the required board are then formed by transversely cutting the compressed mass which may be several feet in length, the segments being united preferably with a constricting pressure to form a board, Fig. 2, which may be provided with a retaining band. The board may comprise more than two segments (Fig. 3, not shown), which may be of a thickness a fraction of that of the board and built up laminar fashion, the joints of one layer crossing the joints of the or an adjacent layer preferably at right angles. A rigid board may be interposed between the layers. According to the Provisional Specification the mould may be operated by hydraulically operated rams. A backing for the board may be provided.
