Abstract

593,268. Targets. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and VAUGHAN, G. May 29, 1945, No. 13388. [Class 132 (iii)] Target boards for darts and the like, manufactured by compressing an assembly of short lengths of straw or other fibrous material bonded together by a soluble bonding agent and having their ends lying in the playing faces of the board, are treated on the said playing faces with a solvent for the bonding agent to as to remove at least a portion of the bonding agent therefrom. With paraffin wax as a bonding agent, petrol or paraffin may be the solvent; with coumarone resin or unvulcanised rubber, benzene may be more suitable. In an example the straw is bonded with wax under pressure and the wax removed from the playing surface to a depth of “ to ¢ inch with petrol. Boards so made and treated may be double-sided.
