Abstract

553,066. Making dart-boards, archery board, &c. WRIGHT, W. Oct. 1, 1941, No. 12703. [Class 87 (ii.)] [Also in Group XV] A method of making a board for archery, darts and like games from two or more sections of compressed fibrous material arranged so that the end of said material are presented at the surface of the board, each of said sections being retained in a state of compression by an encircling band, consists in laying the fibrous material in a recess on the bed of a press, the bottom of the recess being arcuate or V-shaped and the sides of said recess being continued upwards parallel with one another, and compressing said material by means of a platen slidable between said sides. The fibre may be put into the bed of a press and compressed to form a semicylindrical body, after which it is encircled by a retaining band. Alternatively a sheet of metal e is put into the bed the fibre on it and another sheet k on the top. While the plunger d is still in lowermost compressing position, ties g are fixed to hold the encircling metal in position. Two semi-cylindrical bodies are placed together as in Fig. 5 and encircled by the final metal retaining bands m, after which the body is sliced to form targets. The two semi-cylindrical bodies may be mortised and tenoned Figs. 7-9 (not shown). In the press shown in Fig. 10, quarter sections are made. The metal member e used in Fig. 12 has ends e<SP>1</SP> projecting past the diametrical position. Wires are introduced through holes 21 in the press and corresponding holes in member e before the pressure is released, and the top a<SP>1</SP> of the press removed. Two halfcylindrical pieces are put together as in Fig. 16 when the projecting ends e<SP>1</SP> may be secured to the complementary strip e. Adhesive may be employed in known manner.
