[Also in Group XVII] In a machine for securing adhesively wrappers W to incomplete box bodies B, a pair of transfer members 57 reciprocate, one on each side of a vertically movable form block F, to draw the box, with the unfolded wrapper attached, from a conveyer C into the path of the block F. The block F forces the box and wrapper past devices for folding up the wrapper round the box and forms part of a machine M of the type described in Specification 516,779, [Group XVII], and U.S.A. Specification 2,074,561. The transfer members are connected by a bridge 58 and are reciprocated in guides 64 by a crank 117 through mutilated gears 109, 113 which give the members 57 a dwell in the retracted position. Locking elements 110, 115 prevent movement during the dwell. Operation.-The wrappers W are carried by the conveyer from a known gluing machine G to a point where the boxes B are positioned on them by hand. The combined box and wrapper are aligned by a stop 40 and come to rest against a stop 46 carried by spring-biased pivoted arms 48. The members 57 advance to force the box against stops 44a, 44b, the stop 46 being deflected by a rod 52 secured to the bridge 58. The members 57 embrace the box, spring-biased grippers 68 opening out behind it to force it against stops 67, and suction heads 73 engaging the forward flap of the wrapper. The suction heads have a wrapper-engaging surface to which the glue will not adhere, and for this purpose are wholly or in part formed from a polymer of tetra-fluoroethylene as further described in Specification 748,796. The box and wrapper are drawn beneath the former F, ejector stop 78 discharging a completed box stripped from the former in its previous upward stroke (see Fig. 21). The conveyer may have suction means to hold the wrapper and may be as described in U.S.A. Specifications 1,701,317 and 1,818,198. It may have a portion opposite the transfer members where the suction may be reduced, as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,425,210. This portion may be hinged back to give access to the folding devices of the machine M. Specification 518,736, [Group XVII], and U.S.A. Specification 1,772,344 also are referred to.
