Abstract
748,153. Springs. HAMMEL-DAHL CO. Aug. 26, 1953, No. 23560/53. Class 108 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] A spring loading arrangement for valves comprises a spring chamber 16 with spaced end walls 34, 35, a shaft 25 operatively connected to the valve and extending through the end walls, a spring 42 surrounding the shaft and engaging abutment members 43, 44 at its opposite ends and means whereby either of the abutment members may be selectively secured to the shaft leaving the other abutment member free to engage the end wall nearest to it. The spring 42 thus acts downwardly if the abutment 44 is secured to the shaft or upwardly if the abutment 43 is secured to the shaft. The shaft has a thicker portion 40 which is threaded at its ends 41, 41<SP>1</SP> for engagement with correspondingly threaded bores in the abutment members. The spring casing is connected to the valve casing 10 by a yoke 13. A nut 37 is provided to limit the upward movement of the valve member 11. The valve (see Group XXIX) is actuated by a diaphragm 20 connected to the shaft 25 and operated by fluid under pressure admitted to one or other of the compartments 18, 19 in a casing 17.
