Abstract

747,178. Laminated materials. BRITISH PLASTER BOARD, Ltd. June 17, 1953 [June 23, 1952; Jan. 26, 1953], Nos. 15790/52 and 2132/53. Class 140. A hollow building unit comprises a pair of gypsum plaster boards 10, 11 with a cellular core between them formed of crossing sets of flat strips 13, 14 slotted over half their width to form cross-halving joints where they cross one another, the plaster boards being secured to the core by an adhesive which covers the whole of the core and forms beads 22 between the facing boards and the edges of the strips forming the core. The inner surfaces of the facing boards may also be covered with adhesive. Holes 30 may be provided in one or both sets of strips. The core is first dipped into adhesive, such as sodium silicate, to about half its depth, and laid on a gypsum plaster board freshly coated with the same adhesive. After allowing the adhesive to set, the unit is inverted, the core is again dipped to about half its depth in sodium silicate, and placed on a second sodium silicate-coated gypsum plaster board. The strips for the core may be of paper, cardboard, chipboard, wood, or plywood.
