[Class 145 (ii)] Panels for doors &c. are formed of simple or composite cover sheets 1, 2 of wood, or other fibrous material, glued on each side of an intermediate layer comprising a framework of wood veneer folded at angles in such a way that continuous channels of prismatic crosssection are formed between them and the cover sheets, the intermediate layer comprising at least one layer folded along scores provided all on the same side of the veneer and substantially at right angles to the grain. The veneers 5, Fig. 1, are formed with channels of rectangular prisms, or triangular prisms may be formed as shown in Fig. 5 by folding along narrow and deep notches 9, 8 respectively arranged at right angles to the direction of the grain. As shown in Fig. 3, the intermediate layer is formed of a series of hollow box-like members 7. In Fig. 7, a number of sections of triangular form are interlaced at 17 and the sections are connected by glued paper strips 19. Two layers as shown in Fig. 7 may be connected together by a glued binding layer of veneer, cardboard, paper, &c. with the channels of the layers running parallel or perpendicular to each other, and Fig. 11 shows a similar construction with binding layers 25 serving to connect two layers having channels 23, 24 of rectangular section, the channels being arranged perpendicular to one another. Intermediate layers as described may be used as sound and heat insulating plates in walls and roofs, by applying them against a wall and applying a cover thereto.
