Abstract

An electrode of aluminium-plated iron annealed at about 500 DEG -1000 DEG C., such as a discharge tube anode, is subsequently boiled in distilled water, preferably for from half a minute to a few minutes, to produce a surface of approximately black body radiation characteristics. It may then be further annealed. The boiling and annealing sequence may be repeated several times.
