Abstract

A method of forming an insulating oxide surface on a nickel electrode comprises applying to the electrode a coating of zinc, heating to cause superficial alloying of zinc and nickel and p superficial oxidation of the surface. The heating may be carried out in an oxidizing atmosphere to aid the oxidation and the final surface may be provided with a protective film of silica by the method described in Specification 590,394, [Group III]. The method may be used in the manufacture of a mosaic screen, the mesh of which is nickel, plated with zinc and then heated in air to 750 DEG C. for 40 minutes or 900 DEG C. for 5 minutes. According to the Provisional Specification, heating may be at 600 DEG C. for 5 minutes. Specifications 369,909 and 395,671 also are referred to.
