Abstract

A non-emitting electrode for an electric-discharge tube is made of an alloy of iron with not more than 7 per cent of titanium and is heated for a short time, before or after being mounted in the tube, in a nonoxidizing or slightly reducing atmosphere to produce a coating of a thin black layer of titanium oxide. The production is described of an electrode from an alloy of iron with 2 per cent of titanium, the electrode being heated for 20 minutes in an atmosphere consisting mainly of a mixture of one part of hydrogen with four parts of nitrogen.
