Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain protective film-covered body having high corrosion resistance and high weather resistance as well as high film-boding strength by forming a protective layer of an alkali metal silicate on the surface of a metal base plate of an iron plate subjected to an oxidation treatment at high temperatures.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of the iron metal bass plate 20 of a desired shape is deoiled by the usual method using trichloroethylene and then dried, and the base plate 20 so cleansed is heated at approx. 250°C for approx. 15 min. in the air to form the blue-colored thin oxide film 21 of a thickness of several microns on the surface of the base plate. Then, an alkali metal silicate aqueous solution prepared from a silica and an alkali metal oxide is coated on the surface of the film 21, dried preliminarily, and then baked at approx. 250°C 10 min. in an oven to obtain a film-covered body transparent and free from peeling and crack at high temperature.
