Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide cheaply and simply predetermined resistance to corrosion and oxidation to the surface of a metallic alloy member the m.p. of which is higher than that of Al, by forming an Al film on the surface followed by anodic oxidation.
CONSTITUTION: An Al film is formed on the surface of a metallic alloy member the m.p. of which is higher than that of Al by a suitable method, and they are optionally heated to a temp. above the m.p. of Al to facilitate formation of an alloy layer between the material of the member and the Al film. Anodic oxidation is then carried out to convert the surface part of the Al film into dense alumina which is very stable thermally and chemically, and has good adherence to the material of the member. This alumina film provides resistance to corrosion due to molten metal and oxidationin a hot atmosphere.
