Abstract

746,860. Gauging workpiece dimensions. SIGMA INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd. Dec. 2, 1954 [Sept. 2, 1953], No. 24281/53. Class 106 (2). In an inspection machine for gauging a workpiece the work is fed by a slide 2 from a loading to a gauging position, the slide being reciprocated by a motor-driven cam, a delay mechanism being provided to de-energize the motor for an adjustable, predetermined, period of time when the slide is in the loading position. A catch 13 on a lever 12 secured by a spring strip 11 to a bracket 10 on the underside of the slide 2 can swing forwardly but not rearwardly with respect to the lever 12 and co-operates with a roller 18A on an arm 18 mounted on a shaft 19 to which is also secured a wheel 20, Fig. 4. Small projections 21 and a single large projection 22 on the wheel 20 co-operate with a projection 28 on a pivoted strip 23 whose free end bears contacts 24, 25 co-operating with fixed contacts 26, 27. In the initial position the projection 22 engages the projection 28 and the motor circuit is closed via contacts 24, 26, the motor driving the cam and retracting the slide from its gauging position. When the slide is almost fully retracted the catch 13 engages the roller 18A thereby rotating the arm 18 and wheel 20 so that the projections 22 and 28 disengage, thereby stopping the motor. Rotation of the arm 18 also winds a clockwork mechanism which returns the wheel 20 to its original position but this return movement is prevented so long as the arm 18 is engaged by the catch 13. This delay period is adjustable by means of a screw 14 bearing on the lever 12. When contacts 24, 26 open a warning light is illuminated by the closing of contacts 25, 27 and this light is caused to flicker at the end of the loading delay period by the engagement of the projection 28 with the series of projections 21.
