Class 80(3) [Also in Group XXIII] Mechanism for moving a member 17 relatively to a screw 11 comprises a nut member 18 rotatably supported in the member 17. The nut member 18 is also free to move axially in member 17 under pressure of a spring 21 against a cam surface 29 on a pivoted operating member 23. Movement of the member 23 to the position in Fig. 1 causes the cam surface 29 to effect a quick downward movement of member 17, after which further movement can be obtained by rotation of the nut 18 by the member 23. The device is particularly applicable to clamps, as shown, vices and presses.
