832,661. Gauging toothed gears. NATIONAL BROACH & MACHINE CO. April 11, 1958, No. 11590/58. Class 106 (2). Gear gauging apparatus comprises a master gear 20 fixed against rotation, a second master gear 16 rotatably mounted, gauging means 40 responsive to the separation of the gears 16, 20 and timed means 78 for advancing a work gear W into contact with the master 16, the work gear W meshing with the teeth on a limited peripheral portion of the gear 16. A resilient stop member 78 releases the gear W at an appropriate moment determined by an arm 74 engaging a cam 68 mounted for rotation at the same speed as the gear 16. In order to prevent two work gears W being fed to the gauging position a second similar stop member 76, operated by a cam 66, holds back the second work gear W. The master gear 20 is carried by an arm 26 pivoted at 24 and movement of this arm operates a dial indicator 40 and an electric limit switch 42 which can control sorting apparatus. Both master gears can be angularly adjusted to bring fresh teeth into engagement when wear occurs.
