Abstract
745,777. Rotary pipe joints. JOHNSON CORPORATION. Jan. 28, 1954 [Aug. 27, 1953], No. 2651/54. Class 99(1). A tube part 34 for connection to a rotary drum or cylinder 38 carries sealing-segments 42, 44 engaging sealing rings 48, 50, preferably of carbon graphite, mounted for sliding sealing engagement with opposite end walls of a casing 10 having an annular end plate 26 to which is detachably secured an end plate 58 carrying a syphon pipe 54<SP>1</SP> axially insertible along the interior of the part 34. The plate 26 may be attached to lugs 22 of the casing 10, and the plate 58 to separate lugs 24 of the casing. The segments 42, 44 may be urged apart by a spring 46, and have spherical surfaces co-operating with similar surfaces on the rings 48, 50, the segment 44 being axially slidable on the part 34. The pipe 54<SP>1</SP> may be secured to a pipe section 5411 by a pivoted elbow. The plate 26 may have a central boss 28 slidable in the casing, a packing ring 30 being disposed between the plate and the casing and a similar joint being made between the plates 26, 58. There may be a screwed inlet 12 in the casing 10 for the passage of steam to the interior of the part 34.
