Abstract
744,527. Knitting; coating yarns. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 7, 1953 [April 7, 1952], No. 8879/52. Classes 74 (2) and 140. A yarn treating device, particularly for lubricating yarns in circular knitting-machines, comprises a tank 42 supplied with lubricant from a tank 1 in which the lubricant is maintained at a constant level. Each yarn passes over a grooved disc 9 which dips into the lubricant in the tank 42 and which is driven by reduction gearing 20 and manually adjustable variablespeed gearing 47, 48 from a grooved disc 21 which is driven by frictional engagement with the yarn. One disc 21 is used for each yarn and is mounted on a common axle through the intermediary of a free wheel 25. A yarn passes under a disc 21, through a guide 13 carried by a pivoted arm 43, and thence over a disc 9 and through an adjustable guide 12. Each arm 43 is operable, through a Bowden cable 45, by movement of the appropriate yarn feeder into and out of action. When a yarn feeder is taken out of operation the arm 43 is raised to engage a brake shoe 33 with the appropriate disc 21 to stop it, and the yarn is raised clear of its disc 9. A disc 9 may be provided for each yarn or a roller may be used having a groove for each yarn.
