Abstract

To fuel oil for use in a gas turbine plant is added iron, aluminium, oxides thereof, or compounds thereof yielding the oxide at combustion temperatures to form a vanadium compound between the additive and the vanadium pentoxide in the fuel oil ash; corrosion of the metallic parts of the gas turbine is thereby reduced. Additives referred to are iron and aluminium naphthenates, oleates, stearates and linoleates; also the oxides, hydroxides and carbonates dissolved or suspended in oil, water or other liquid. Specifications 639,468 [Group XII], 702,215 [Group XXIX] and 731,242 are referred to.
