Abstract
742,620. Mechanical toy aeroplanes. ERHARD, K., and JACOBOWITZ, M. Sept. 4, 1953 [Sept. 20, 1952; March 5, 1953], No. 24535/53. Class 132(3) A toy aeroplane which may travel on a surface or be suspended to simulate flight has a spring mechanism which drives at least one propeller and one undercarriage wheel, provision also being made for extending and retracting the undercarriage by means of the spring mechanism. When the toy is not suspended, Fig. 4, the propellers are driven by the main gear wheel 108 via gears 118, 118a, 120 and shafts 121, and, drive to undercarriage wheel 111 is effected through gearing 119, 110 and shaft 112. On suspending the toy by means of a plate 136, a U-shaped member 135 pivoted at 133 moves so at to cause a gear wheel 123 to be raised into engagement with a drive pinion 106. and an arm 132 on member 135 releases a slide 127. A cam 125 secured to the gear 123 now rotates to cause a flange 126 of the slide 127 to move forwardly, and pivoted undercarriage wheel supports 113, 134 which are connected to the slide are swung upwardly and into the body of the toy, the drive to the wheel 111 being disengaged at the gear 110. The small upward movement of the plate 136 causes two spring members 139, 140 to be electrically connected, and lamps in the wings of the toy are connected to a battery 143, the circuit being continuously interrupted by the action of a driven star wheel 107: Alternatively a thermal relay may be used to interrupt the circuit. When the spring mechanism is run down the cam 125 returns to the position shown in Fig. 4 and the wheel supports are lowered.
