Abstract

556,506. Seaplanes. CARMICHAEL, J. C. June 24, 1942, No. 8694. [Class 4] A retractable float 1, Fig. 4, is carried by a fuselage or nacelle 4 in an inverted position so that the surface of the deck 12 merges into or forms a continuation of the lower surface of the fuselage or nacelle 4. Pivoted arms 5, Fig. 7, connected by a link 7 are swung downwardly by worm and wheel gear 37, 38 to lower the float 1 into operative position, the gears on the arms being connected by a chain and the arms being locked in their lowered position by a releasable latch 39. The floats are turned over by being rotated in the slings 18, carrying them from the arms 5, by means of a threaded motor-operated shaft 26 which drives forward a non-rotating helicallysplined shaft 24 working through a nut 30 fast with the float 1.
