Abstract

274,973. Muir, N. S. May 1, 1926. Screw and like propellers.-Blades hinged to their boss so as to move under the action of centrifugal and air forces, have means for automatically varying their pitch as they rise and fall in order to damp their oscillations, and the mean pitch may be manually adjusted. The blades are pivoted about their spars which are pivoted to the boss about horizontal axes, and as the spars tilt the incidence of the blades is varied by pinions G thereon which engage sectors pivoted about the spar axes but maintained in contact with a cam ring F by springs K. By turning the cam ring F by a cable L the sectors are moved to vary the mean pitch of the blades.
