742,167. Spray-producers. INSTITUUT VOOR TUINBOUWTECHNIEK. Dec. 7, 1953 [Dec. 8, 1952; July 13, 1953], No. 33988/53. Class 69 (3). A method of atomizing liquids comprises the creation of a local zone of high air velocity in an air stream, the zone being followed by a local zone with violent vortexes and introducing the liquid as a thin film in the high velocity zone in a direction making an obtuse angle with the main direction of the air stream. In Fig. 1 a hollow body 4 in the mouthpiece 2 of an air duct 1 is supplied with liquid at 7, and the liquid flows from a slitshaped orifice 5 to the edge 6 where it is atomized by air flowing around said edge. In Fig. 2 the liquid is fed through ducts 14 to a chamber 11 between conical parts 8, 9 and flows from an annular outlet 12 to the edge 13 where it is atomized. The part 9 may be hollow to allow air to pass through it axially, and the parts 8, 9 may be urged together by a spring to close the liquid outlet, which outlet is opened by the liquid pressure in a chamber formed between the parts. In Fig. 6 the liquid flows from a duct 49 and through openings 53 to an annular outlet 52 between parts 47 and 50, and flows to the edge 54 where it is atomized by air which is given a rotary movement by vanes 56 and which passes about a cylindrical member 55. Alternatively, the parts providing the annular outlet therebetween are arranged so that the outlet debouches at the atomizing edge.
