Abstract
741,206. Pipe joints. SEAMARK, L. M. C. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 12, 1953], No. 28025/53. Class 99(1). In a joint particularly for thin-walled pipes 1, 2, a liner 3, preferably having a flange 4, is fitted in each pipe end, a ring 5 having a rib 6 separating the end faces of the pipes is mounted on the pipe ends so that inturned edges 7 of the ring bear on the outer surfaces of the pipes, and an outer casing comprises co-operating rings 10 each clamped on a pipe as by bolts 11. Each ring 10 is in the form of a band or comprises two semicircular parts having lugs 12 to receive the bolts 11, has serrations 13 to grip the pipe, and arms 14 each extending longitudinally between a pair of arms of the other ring, a locking ring 17 being situated between vertical lugs 15 on the ends of the arms. The arrangement allows for pipes laid with their axes inclined, in which case the ring 17 may be tapered and permits expansion due to temperature changes. Rubber sealing-rings 9 in a space 8 in the ring 5 are forced into the outer corners as shown when the pressure inside the pipe is greater than outside and to the broken-line positions when the outer pressure is the greater.
