Abstract
740,674. Starting oil engines. BOSCF ,GES.. R. Feb. 12, 1954 [Feb. 14, 1953] No. 4133/54. Class 7(3) [Also in Group XXVI] A stop 18, setting the normal maximum fuel supply position of a fuel injection pump control rod 7 controlled by a centrifugal governor 3 through a lever 6 pivoted at 9 on a manually. actuated adjusting lever 13, is pivotally mounted at 19 and is connected to a lever 22 which is acted upon by the governor 3 when the engine is at rest or turning at speeds up to starting speed to move the stop 18 sideways to permit the control rod 7 to move to a position beyond the normal maximum fuel supply position to supply excess fuel for starting. The lever 22 is normally held by a spring 26 against a stop 27, whereby the stop 18 is positioned to engage a step 16 on the rod 7 to limit the movement of the rod 7 to the right. - When the engine is at rest or turning slowly, the governor springs force the governor sleeve 4 against the end of the lever 22 and rotate it clockwise to move the stop 18 downwards out of engagement with the step 16 but positioned to engage a second step 17, which permits the rod 7 to be moved by the control lever 13 to the excess supply position for starting. When the engine fires and rotates at speeds equal to and greater than idling, the governor sleeve 4 is withdrawn to allow the lever 22 and stop 18 to return to their normal position.
