Abstract

740,511. Reciprocating pumps. TORKRET GES. Oct. 5, 1953 [Oct. 3, 1952], No. 27219/53. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A pump for viscous materials comprises a pair of cylinders containing pistons 8 each of which have racks 9 geared to a pinion 10. The pistons are actuated by hydraulic pressure supplied by a pump 4 enclosed in the reservoir 5, mounted on the carriage 1 which carries the hopper 22. The pumping cylinders 7 are provided with a valve 16 which is oscillated by a pinion 17 driven by a rack formed between pistons 19, 19<SP>1</SP>. The valve has a threaded extension 116 which causes it to move axially as it is rotated. The pressure liquid supply from pump 4 is distributed to pistons 19, 19<SP>1</SP> to actuate the valve and the pistons control the supply of actuating liquid to the pistons 8 so that the pistons are actuated after the valve has been moved to its appropriate position. In a modification as shown in Fig. 7, the discharge pipe is pivotally mounted at 25 and has a curved face co-operating with a seat 26 and is actuated by pistons 1911, 19<SP>111</SP>. In another form the pump body is moved transversely to co-operate with stationary valve seats. In the construction shown in Fig. 12 a single rotary oscillating valve 29 connects the cylinders 7 alternately to the hopper and the delivery pipe 37 and is actuated by cranks 31 and rods 32 connected to a lever 33 provided with a roller that is actuated by cams 35 on the shaft 36 of pinion 10. The pump pistons have heads 8a that have a lost motion connection with the pistons 8 so that the actual pumping of the material does not commence until the valve 29 has been moved. The main distributing valve for the pressure liquid to the pistons 8 is actuated by an auxiliary valve 40 which distributes pressure liquid to pistons contacting the ends of the main distributing valve. The valve 40 is engaged at its ends by coaxial rods 205 which in turn engage a yoke 41 which is reciprocated by spring-loaded abutments 441 carried on the ends of a rack engaging a pinion on the shaft 36. If the valve 29 should be prevented from closing then the pressure of the pressure liquid will rise and open one or other of the safety valves 39 which permits pressure liquid to flow through one or other of the pipes 209 to move one of the pistons 38 into engagement with the yoke -41 to reverse the valve 40 and thus the main distributing valve.
