A traveller for a ring spinning machine is shaped so as to act also as a slub catcher for yarn passing through it. As shown the upper arm 24 of the traveller is formed to define a parallel walled slot 25 extending upwards, the slot 25 being of a width substantially equal to the diameter of the yarn 15. The slot 25 may be inclined at an angle substantially equal to the angle at which the yarn 15 approaches it from the yarn balloon.
